From the author of Outlander, a magnificent epic that once again sweeps us back in time to the drama and passion of 18th-century Scotland. For twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones, about a love that transcends the boundaries of time and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his. Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire's spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart, in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.

"I love this series but this book stands alone in my mind because honestly the research she must have done to give such detail on the politics of that time. This book focuses on the political aspect moreso than the romance of the first. Certain things always stand out and the political detailing certainly did. Beautiful series"

"This took me almost a week and a half to read. One one hand it's great to have a story that I'm not done with in a day or two but on the other hand, so far, these books are horrible for relaxing. These are far from a good afternoon read to read cover to cover.

This one was emotional towards the end and I admit, I was having a hard time just reading it, the end becoming almost unbearable. But I was consumed with what Claire and Jaime were going through and I was vested in the outcome.

I had said I wasn't going to start the next one right away, but after that ending, I think I have to. I have to find out what happens. So, a week from now I shall have finished another book. These books are are ruining my reading stats."
"So aside from the fact that Diana Gabaldon has a tendency to put her characters through the wringer, I found this book immensely enjoyable. I loved Outlander, so there is really no reason that I wouldn't love this one too, aside from the more than occasional spurts of graphic violence and overall depressing content. What I can say is that despite feeling utterly disgusted by some of the antics of the characters (cough Jack Randall cough), the author does thoroughly play out the emotions therein. My biggest pet peeve is for a character to go through an awful ordeal and then be totally fine cause the book needs to move on. Nope, poor Jamie, Claire and their unfortunate companions (seriously, people need to stop hanging out with them) feel everything in exacting detail. I'm a little scarred to be honest. Additionally I am a big fan of historical fiction, so I enjoyed the real life aspect of the story. Like who hasn't wondered where people went to the bathroom back in the day? True, I read a little more than needed about lice and spent a day scratching my head in worry, but it's nice to have the things I've wondered about explained. Overall, love the book, love the series, and love the show. I'm off to watch Sam Heughan as I write this, because that man is a fine looking Scot"

"Oh my lord, thank god I am finished this book. It dragged on and on so much, I couldn't wait to finish it. A lot of the stuff in this could have been taken out, like a lot of the details and a lot of the Paris parts.

I also really hated Claire in this book. She was kind of bitchy compared to the first novel, which was so much better than this book.

I really hope the next one is better."
