The Instant New York Times Bestseller! Kim Liggett's The Grace Year is a speculative thriller in the vein of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Power. Survive the year.No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbidden. In Garner County, girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, to drive women mad with jealousy. They believe their very skin emits a powerful aphrodisiac, the potent essence of youth, of a girl on the edge of womanhood. That’s why they’re banished for their sixteenth year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive. Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life—a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear. It’s not even the poachers in the woods, men who are waiting for a chance to grab one of the girls in order to make a fortune on the black market. Their greatest threat may very well be each other. With sharp prose and gritty realism, The Grace Year examines the complex and sometimes twisted relationships between girls, the women they eventually become, and the difficult decisions they make in-between.“A visceral, darkly haunting fever dream of a novel and an absolute page-turner.” – Libba Bray, New York Times bestselling author

"It was so good. I loved how you could see Tierney’s growth throughout the seasons. I love how Gertie called her out on her crap so fast she couldn’t see straight in the beginning. She was kinda annoying when she was with Ryker but I mean it was justified. And I loved how the author wrote Tierney’s emotions and physical feeling, like when one of the girls died or she was in the woods at first, it was beautiful and hideous at the same time, realistic. Ngl, I cried over Ryker because he deserved soooooo much better. On the other hand, Hans deserved what he got. I was rooting for him at the beginning because I thought he was sweet, but I take back everything, he was just like the guards Ryker talked about. I have great respect for her mother, and her father is a good man. I realllyyyyyy hope there’s some kind of follow up with Rykers family, the usurpers, and Grace. And I’m glad she finally treated Michael better at the end. Gertie is just perfect. "
"Dark and laced with underlying messages, this book completely shocked me. The story really gets you involved and makes you think about the way things are today—the way we treat others simply because they are different. This story was so engaging and wild, I didn’t want to stop. Despite the horrors going on around them, one girl didn’t give up. She opened her eyes, but people told her she saw nothing. After reading this, I think she saw everything. She saw the truth. You must give this a read. With bits of romance, pits of insanity, and endless violence and hate, this story was absolutely unapologetic in its telling. "
"•SPOILER WARNING• I have been reading this book for a while now. Not that it dragged out, it was actually quite the page turner! I just kept getting more books that were higher up on my TBR. Ngl, this book made me cry. I was so ****** when Ryker died. (Sorry if I spelt his name wrong) They were so freaking close to their happy ending. When I found out she was pregnant, my heart sank. I’m a little confused about the ending of the book; I would really like to read your opinions on it! I have no clue whether she just passed out from giving birth, or if she died and that is why she saw Ryker. I think I lean more towards the first. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a good dystopian book! "
"I gave The Grace Year over 100 pages, but unfortunately, I just can't get into it. It's so slow with minimal action, plot, or characterization. It doesn't feel any different than any other YA dystopian book. It feels like I've already read this one. The main character has a family she doesn't connect with, she's "different than all the other girls", etc. I had high hopes for this one, but it's not working for me. <br/>"
