"I thumbs up this bad boy because it’s Stephen King and there’s nothing if his I don’t enjoy reading at least a little bit. This isn’t one his bests, not even close. Still, I liked it enough to read it a few times. "

"It’s well known that this book was written when King was on drugs, and while many call this story a **** show for that reason, it’s most likely why I liked it so much. Gardener’s inner thoughts and inner psychology (yes, including the power plant stuff) got me invested into his character, and the slow transformation of Bobbi Anderson and to an extent the town was very peculiar and interesting. The only gripes I have with this book would be the way it Carrie’s on towards the end. It’s not all bad, the ending is very strange and transient (in gard’s case), but it’s very interesting and it plays out well. I just don’t like that there are so many characters names that get jumbled and confusing to the point where I’m confused. Overall, I found this book to be fairly enjoyable and interesting; the decent into madness with the town is strange and leaves the reader questioning the next moves of the story and the story of Bobbi and Gardner is tragic and in a strange way peaceful. "Pretty good story, although it isn't my absolute favorite. Main characters are Bobbi Anderson and Jim Gardener. Bobbi stumbles across a shiny piece of metal in the ground in the woods near her house. As she further digs it out, it becomes much larger than she thought it would be. Turns out it is a space ship that has been in the Earth for over 25,000 years. As she uncovers more of it, there is a force emanating from it that transforms the people in the town into "drones" of the aliens from the ship. They eventually begin to evolve into protectors of the ship and will do anything to keep what is happening a secret from the outside world. Anyone from outside who tries to enter Haven get violently ill, lose teeth, and suffer from nose bleeds. When Gardener (also known as Gard) comes to Haven because he has a feeling that Bobbi is in trouble, he sees what is going on and does what he can to try and stop it. There are references to It, The Talisman, and Firestarter, which are neat to be aware of."
