"The description of this movie had me intrigued, so I tolerated the subtitles in hopes of a good movie. Nope. Too much of a slow burn for my tastes. Awkward pauses and long still shots add to the pacing issues that already existed. Then towards the end it begins to border on an art house film, which is definitely not for me. Don't waste your time. 2/10"

This is one of the most disturbing movies I've seen in a long time! The filming was fantastic from beginning to end. The way the sound track worked was brilliant (even though the music was not my favorite). The acting was above the bar! There was never a dull moment. And THE TWIST. I won't be letting anyone borrow eggs from me. I 100% recommend watching Funny Games (it is not for the faint of heart). "
"This movie is very unsettling, but in a good way. I really dug the pacing of this film and how it manages to keep you at the edge of your seat for the entire film. I also really admired the way they use long takes to evoke emotion. While the 4th wall stuff was a nice touch, I can't help but acknowledge that it took me out of the film at times. Overall, if you like effed up movies, this is right up your alley."
"Tension at all times, disturbing, with strimg scenes, but the movie goes far beyond violence, where the work of the director Michael Haneke is a show apart, proposing an immersion of the viewer in countless ways, making us part of these sick moments, bringing numerous messages and indirect criticisms during the development. This proposal of the "participating spectator" makes the cast stand out with fabulous performances. Undoubtedly one of the best films of its genre."
"Highly overrated in my opinion. In some circles this is considered a horror / thriller masterpiece and one of the most disturbing movies ever to be made. While I definitely believe the film to be well made there’s really not much in the way of substance and plot. Two young men invite themselves in to the lake home of an affluent family and proceed to play a violet and deadly game with the family. One of the offenders routinely breaks the fourth wall to talk to the audience almost making them complicit in the games and he seems to know that they are just as excited as he is to see what happens. This sounds better than it actually is and one of the fourth wall breaks involving a remote was just trying to be too cool or meta for my liking. This was a strange one for me. I love horror / thriller movies and I’m not someone that gets terribly freaked out by the supernatural. It’s the real stuff that gets to me and home invasion is definitely a reality that freaks me out terribly so you’d think I’d give this film a high rating. I really just think the director overplayed his hand and came across as a try hard. I will say that the acting in this is truly fantastic from all involved. They just deserved a better script. "
