Peter Jackson’s documentary ‘They Shall Not Grow Old’ is getting rave reviews. The colorized footage of World War I brings the realities of the Great War to life like never before. The documentary is being used as a teaching tool, almost magical in the extent to which it transports viewers into the lives of soldiers who enlisted in their teens, laughed with their comrades one moment, and died the next. This is one of the best applications of moviemaking technology in recent memory. For more great documentary recommendations, see Likewiser Davis Guggenheim’s awesome list.
