Movies to Stream

Rafiki is a Kenyan film that showcases the romantic relationship between two women, Kena and Ziki. Their relationship is forbidden by law in Kenya, forcing the two to navigate their relationship through restrictions.

Brokeback Mountain

Two cowboys living in the mountains meet one night and have a passionate encounter. The two must hide their relationship for 20 years from their wives and all those around them. Brokeback Mountain has received immense acclaim for its direction, cast performances, and screenplaying, ultimately landing itself a spot in the National Film Registry. Make sure to give it a watch

Carrie is truly a prom night horrorfest that no one can forget. Carrie White is a high schooler who is constantly bullied at school. Little do her classmates know, Carrie has telekinetic powers that eventually take a bloody turn. This adaption of Stephen King’s novel by the same name is a classic and is new on Showtime now.

Gladiator is a historical drama film loosely based on events from the second half of 2nd century AD Roman Empire. The film stars Russell Crowe as General Maximus Decimus Meridius, a general who becomes a gladiator after he is betrayed by the emperor’s son. Maximus avenges the deaths of his family through his time as a gladiator in the arena. Gladiator won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe!

I, Tonya

I, Tonya is a biographical film that depicts the upbringing and career of infamous skater Tonya Harding. Although Harding was a successful skater, her career came crashing down when her husband hired a man to injure skater Nancy Kerrigan before the 1994 Olympics. Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harding is fantastic and this film is a must-watch.

Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson’s films are beautiful, no doubt and Moonrise Kingdom is no exception. But the film is not only beautiful, it also skillfully incorporates themes of childhood and love into its storyline about two young children who fall in love and run away and the search that follows. The film was included in BBC’s 2016 list of the greatest films of the twenty-first century, so definitely give it a watch!

Notting Hill

Quiet British bookseller meets Hollywood starlet. Notting Hill is a romance comedy classic starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. It’s known for its charmingly sweet storyline and the great chemistry between Roberts and Grant. This is the perfect movie for any romantic occasion, from a dinner date to girls’ night. Also, if you ever find yourself in London post-COVID-19, you can actually visit the Notting Hill bookshop (maybe you’ll find your future lover there too?)!

Sleepless in Seattle

Sleepless in Seattle is a romcom classic that is now available on Showtime! Starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as newly widowed Sam and reporter Annie Reed respectively. The two meet after Sam’s son calls in to a radio program in an attempt to find a romantic partner for his father. The film is a must watch for the romantics out there and is now on Showtime!
