The sun shines every day, the grass is always a perfect green, and while her school seems to swear there’s no such thing as bullying, she still feels bummed out. But one day, when Filomena is walking home on her own, something strange happens. Filomena is being followed by Jack Stalker, one of the heroes in the Thirteenth Fairy, a series of books she loves about a brave girl and her ragtag group of friends who save their world from an evil enchantress. She must be dreaming, or still reading a book. But Jack is insistent—he’s real, the stories are real, and Filomena must come with him at once!Soon Filomena is thrust into the world of evil fairies and beautiful princesses, sorcerers and slayers, where an evil queen drives her ruthless armies to destroy what is left of the Fairies. To save herself and the kingdom of Westphalia, Filomena must find the truth behind the fairytales and set the world back to rights before the cycle of destruction begins once more.

This book out of the series might be slow starting book it is definitely worth the read! The third book might be my favorite in the series, though! "De La Cruz enchants is with a flowery opening of a gathering of all in the kingdom to a fete to meet the new princess. Well, all except for one. I love the small hints of unease that are scattered here and there that lets the reader know that something is not quite right.

The switch from fantasy to reality is slightly confusing in the beginning. I wasn’t sure if what I just read was relevant. But it is, so I digress. Filomena is a wonderful character that may be easily relatable. It’s hard to imagine a child like this being bullied but kids can be cruel to those who are different. Filomena is looking forward to reading the final chapter in a long series only to learn it’s never been written. Her disappointment is obvious but how does this change her life? With all her fandom memorabilia and frustration she leaves the bookstore only to be followed by a guy in black. De La Cruz has me hooked from here. A great book for middle school readers."
"It’s my favorite book, it has young romance, I think. It has magic and friendship!!"
