Nathan Mercer, the only man in my life.Loving him was never an option. We met ten years ago, when we started at the same company on the same day. Both new in town and with nobody else to rely on, we quickly became friends. And while Nathan went on to rule San Francisco, I'm still doing the same job with the same people. We finish each other's sentences, we spend Christmas together and he sleeps at my house more than his. He's beautiful.... beyond belief. In another life, he's probably my soul mate. However, lately things have changed. He's started looking at me differently. His eyes drop to my lips as I speak. His hugs are tighter.... longer. Our fights are more passionate, his jealousy insane.I know it's all in my head....it has to be. They say to never love someone who treats you like you're ordinary.I don't. To him I'm a queen. But our story is complicated. And as much as I love Nathan Mercer with all of my heart. . .He's the one man I can never have.

"Warnings:

— A lot of telling and NOT showing. TL Swan needs to go back to writing school, apparently.

— Heroine was somehow celebate for the 6 months while they were apart, meanwhile hero was swimming in stripper *****.

Yeah, not very romantic.

REVIEW:

Intriguing premise and some cute moments. But that's where it all stopped.

T L Swan also skipped over a bunch of steamy scenes.

Look, authors, telling me how much they've had sex is not the same as showing their sex scenes and their sexual chemistry.

I'm not even picky, because I don't necessarily mind the miscommunication trope, but when you pair it with very little sexual content, for a couple who allegedly are "hot" for each other, then it becomes a disappointment and a chore.

2 stars for writing a queer hero in an MF romance book, I guess that's unique and new.

Although the heroine's insecurities were valid... to some extent, all she had to do was ask direct questions to the hero to confirm her doubts. I was getting annoyed listening to her complaining about how worried she was that the hero was gonna leave her for a man.

So embarrassing, and not very sexy in a romance book.

Also, I could have done without her friends' drama. The whole thing with her best friends being obsessed with some guy who filmed his prospects was...uninteresting at best, annoying and time-wasting at worst.

This hero was... not well written.

I understand for the miscommunication trope, T L Swan had to do some things, but making your hero utterly unsmart and uncommunicative, and literally spending 6 months away from the supposed "love of his life" without once checking up on her was...well, it made this hero not very sexy, and I myself started to have doubts that he even loved her.

Especially since there was no grovel on the hero's part."
"Couldn’t put this down. I was not expecting this type of relationship/romance story but loved how real it was and love how different it was to other romance stories. Highly recommend"
