Perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and From Blood and Ash.Book two in the Of Flesh & Bone series! Once, I fell in love with a man who deceived me.For weeks, he stood by my side, twisting his words into pretty half-truths. He enraptured me with his smooth temptation, leaving no corner of my being untouched. He consumed my mind and my body, then finally claimed my heart for himself. But Caelum's true identity is terrifying enough to bring me to my knees. Then, I discovered the truth of who he is.Caldris is whispered in the Nothrek wind. The legend we only speak of with hushed words, in shuttered rooms, for fear of drawing his wrath once again. His intentions are a mystery, his desires impure, and he seeks to shackle me to his side for all eternity. With the Wild Hunt as our guard, he points us back to where it all began: the village of Mistfell and the boundary where the Veil once shimmered in the wind. Now, another secret crouches, poised to change everything. The Mist Guard have been sworn to keep us from crossing into Alfheimr, and from treading Faerie soil, even if innocents must pay with their lives. They have orders to resurrect Mistfell's shimmering barrier, but, once again, there's a greater cost than what has been revealed. Once, the people of Northrek blamed me when the Veil fell.Soon, they'll want me to pay the price the magic requires.

"Absolutely adored this book! Definitely a must-read for fans of Blood & Ash. The first in the series was a bit slow given that it was simply laying the groundwork for this book. Caldris and Estrella’s romance Estrella’s character development, the amazing characters, and the surprising plot twists, alongside the intriguing plot made this novel absolutely incredible! Be warned, the book ends on a cliffhanger! That being said, the author has truly written a gem, I’m really looking forward to reading the next :)"
"3.5

I had more thoughts on this than I thought I did and after compiling them, I may revise my rating later. TBD

Anyways, this book has SEVERE middle book syndrome.
Nothing really happens that cant be explained in a summary, but it does set the scene for the next book.
This book was pretty repetitive. Estrella kept going back and forth between hating Caldris and forgiving him just to go back and hate him again. This happened so many times I cant even count and I honestly just felt bad for him for being legit tugged back and forth.

Also, almost the whole book is traveling, so keep that in mind if youre not a fan of travel-heavy books. Estrella and Caldris join with the Wild Hunt to find Fae-Marked Humans to bring back to their mates in Alfheimr. Im not sure why E & C had to go on this journey around the freaking country to collect these people when that is what the Wild Hunt specializes in, so that was kinda frustrating. I dont get why they couldn’t just cross into Alfheimr by themselves but instead had to wait and go through all this craziness just to collect people who were assholes to her.

I found Estrella to be very woe-is-me in this book. She wallows in self-pity and self-hatred for the whole book and after awhile its like girl we get it, but now ur making me depressed too. She keeps going with this idea that “i have all these powers but i dont want to use them to help the masses because ill lose my individual freedom”. like come on girl be a heroine and stop being whiney and selfish.
I really like Cal and she just really put him through the ringer and treated him like ****, which made me like her less. She kept stringing him along and going back and forth between accepting him and pushing him away and it got exhausting. He legit will die for her, burn the world for her, and do anything she asks of him and shes just whining about “but wait im going to lose my freedom if i mate to this possessive man that im absolutely in love with and cannot picture living without”. Like what girl? make it make sense"
