"This was an enjoyable solid story. It honestly felt like the start of something big which was the only issue I had. The characters lacked depth but it is one of those cases where the further you dive into the seires, the richer it becomes. As if this was just a taste and the Author was daring you to try more.

Of course I loved the bada$$ ragtag group of females hell bent on making their mark in the world but not at the expense of each other which was very humbling. Though the character descriptions were a little lackluster so it was difficult for me to imagine them at times. I would have like for the girls to be more relatable but again I'm positive it will happen with time.

Also the case was too straight forward so I was guessing left and right and still got surprised. And then of course I got blind sided again when I thought it was over. All and all a nice start to a seires. I'm intrigued."
"It has been several years since I read this. What I remember is that I could NOT put it down and the second I finished it, I went to grab the 2nd book of this series! "

"I give it 3.5 stars, almost 4. I enjoyed it and there were cool twists. I think I will read more in this series before deciding if I will read the whole series.
------------------------
I had to come back to this review to give more detail (just in case the author reads it).

This writer has a GREAT plot, and I love how it twists and then twists again. I love the strong women and how he's started developing their characters. These plots are just as intricately woven as Stephen King's and it is such a relief to find an author that does this without the novel having to be horror. Additionally, the characters maintain their defintion and I can still identify with them, even after all the twists instead of everything devolving into some vague alien interaction.

As I read more of this author, I look forward to seeing his characters develop more and to see improvements in the timing and more elaborate sub-plots. The twists came very late in the book and were wrapped up in a very few pages. I loved the twists, they were so exciting, and I would have enjoyed savoring them for longer.

This writer has a ton of promise. I haven't read anything before that could touch Stephen King's talent for plot complexity, and I really prefer the subject matter."

"Usually, I enjoy James Patterson books but this one was such a let down for me. 1st to Die is a mystery about a homicide inspector, journalist, medical examiner, and assistant D.A. come together to solve a string of murders. Lindsay, the homicide inspector, has also been diagnosed with a fatal illness and has to battle that while solving the murders. Between that and adjusting to her new partner, Raleigh, she has her hands full.

Let’s start with the pros. I did enjoy the plot line, that’s truly what kept me reading the book. It moved along at a pace I’m used to and kept me interested. Now, let’s move along to the cons because there were plenty of them for me. Sometimes, male authors just don’t get women characters right, or at least believable. The dialogue was cringy and weird at times. I don’t know any women that talk like that. It was unrealistic at times. Can we discuss how quickly Lindsay and Raleigh “fell in love”? I feel like this entire investigation lasted maybe a month? That was strange to me. I wasn’t a fan of the switching of POV either., it went from 1st person to 3rd person at times. Lastly, the different twists at the end...I was okay with the first twist but the last chapter left me like “What??”

It wasn’t terrible but it also wasn’t great, just meh. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone but I also wouldn’t slap it out of someone’s hand if I saw them reading it. I might read the sequel to see if it gets better."

"All of them in that series do but the more you get into it the more cliffhangers there are."
