Ready Player Two

"A little slow to start but wow, great book and conclusion to Ready Player One. Can’t wait for the movie! "

"Not quite sure how I felt about this book. Of course I loved Ready Player One or I wouldn't be here. It was new and fresh. Also there aren't many nostalgic video game books out there. But the continuation was mostly a mad dash to the end because of the main plot aka to save a half a billion lives in a matter of hours. Maybe that's what ruined it for me. <br/><br/>The High Five where fun. They made jokes, fell in love, fought with one another. Though in this story the High Five didn't have time for that. And even if they did for one second stop and smell the roses I berated them for it. I couldn't help it. It's not that I didn't want to see them excited and having fun. It's my favorite parts when the high five just chilling out and being themselves but when lives are on the line because all but one didn't think things thru I was pretty much aggravated at Parzival, Aech, and Shoto the whole time.<br/><br/>Art3mis was literally the only one using her noggin. Anyone in their right mind would have destroyed the headset as soon as it came into their hands or atleast give it a moment of thought before releasing it to the world. That's why you don't give trillion dollar companies to children.<br/><br/>And even though this is a gamer story it still has many other nostalgic pieces of history which is fun. From book to movies and even music. I found myself stopping to look up a song that was playing in the Oasis just to better feel the surroundings. The author seemed to have put an exorbitant amount of research in this. Some information was so unexpected my husband and I looked it up to see if it was true. And yes it actually was. Ernest Cline even made up nicknames for everything which if you are a gamer you know that is the staple for playing long hours. So in the words of a gamer myself Cline is not in fact a noob.<br/><br/>Parzival changed drastically. Just goes to show what money and power can do to a person. Though later on it was nice to see the old Parzival slowly make his way back. Wil Wheaton was as usual an amazing narrator. He brought a lot of life to the characters. Again the writing style was wonderful easy to read. Ernest Cline pretty much spends the first few chapters updating you for the years lost which I enjoyed.<br/><br/>But like I mentioned before most of the story was a mad dash to the finish. We are introduced to a few new characters but never got to fully invest in them. Actually I couldn't get fully invested in the story. Though it was fun and game me flashbacks of how much I loved the previous.<br/><br/>I was with Art3mis though. She seemed to fully understand and care for the world around. While the rest of the High Five were just living in the moment. Parzival was so addicted to the game he seemed to live for nothing else. And most if not all the High Five came from nothing or had baggage. You think like Art3mis they would have done a little more for the world and even saw more of it in person.<br/><br/>I understand the Oasis saved people and like Parzival was an escape from a cruel world. But it's also not real. The real world was dying around them and instead of changing the fact they just wanted to leave it. The Oasis is perfect that's the problem. Some of my best memories is when something went wrong. Life is full of death and life, troubles and happiness. Resurrection could be used for harm too especially with unaltered memories. For instance if I were to find a person with military secrets. They would still care for their families in the real world and that could be used against them. <br/><br/>So as soon as Parzival gets the resurrection wand he thinks this is amazing and immediately uses it just like he does the headset in the beginning. Doesn't learn his lesson at all. This didn't seem moral to me, it felt more like a business venture. To keep people coming to the Oasis more instead of living conscious lives. I began to daydream that if my husband passed and was in the Oasis I would never leave. Forgetting my family and problems in the real world for an uploaded consciousness with no soul. It would not be my Kevin.<br/><br/>To me it seemed Watts wanted to resurrect people to make things right, to talk to them and say he is sorry. But Watts isn't making it right he is only making himself feel better. Other than the fact that Watt's clone in space finding another home planet that humans would inevitably destroy, it seems like most would have no purpose in the afterlife. It just seems this new power brought on many issue which were never mentioned or to be resolved."

"Extremely slow start, struggled until about 2/3 in, but enjoyed the actual hunt portion (minus some scenes that felt too long). But still a nice easter-egg filled book for anyone who's into geeky stuff"

"This felt like a book that didn’t need to be written. I enjoyed it just fine but not remotely as much as the first one. "

"The writing is stretched out and honestly feels like a filler. Some of the scenes were way too stretched out and the amount of unnecessary details was way too overwhelming. That book could have easily been half the size, and would be much better. It had not awaken any feeling of emotions like the first book. I had very high expectations and though it would created the nostalgic feeling the first book did, however there were moments were I didn’t want the chapter to end. "

"At times in this book felt like it was so crammed with references that your brain couldn't keep up with what was happening. Different areas of the book I would have to reread or would slow down to where I would have to push myself to keep reading. Other areas were highly engaging though and had the nostalgia of the 1st book. "
