"i think this is a great book for teenagers and young adults to learn about racism and its many forms, how its evolved in the name of White supremacy, and how it is ultimately the same as it always was, prejudice. i know that i will lose all memory of the names and dates outlined here, but i've come away with a better understanding of fear, power, and race, and how they intersect in the histories of Black and White people."

"For me, I stay away from reading anything closely political related especially if the author is so one sided from their personal perspective’s…however, they rip apart other people who they have pigeonholed into one group…yet they are bitching that’s what’s happening to them. <br/>It’s draining and time consuming and why must anyone have reason to stereotype one set of people is beyond me, but here we are. <br/><br/>This book, I thought was well done. It was more of a history lesson from the authors viewpoint and I can dig that."

"If Ibram X Kendi’s “Stamped From the Beginning” appears to be a daunting read, this version is less so. Jason Reynolds took Kendi’s work and “reimagined” it. Reynolds follows Kendi’s outline following racism from Cotton Mather to Thomas Jefferson to William Lloyd Garrison to W.E.D. Du Bois to Angela Davis covering major topics that Kendi did, but providing in a way that is relatable to today. Reynolds uses current slang and phrases to get the point across and I believe he does it well. Reading these two books back to back was helpful in really obtaining the information. I highly recommend this as a standalone read or as a supplement to Kendi’s original work. "
