"What a terrible mistake this is, this elementary school was built vertically instead of horizontally, with one classroom right on top of another. As you can imagine, when a school is built as wacky as that, wacky tales are bound to happen. In every classroom, in every grade, in every students chair there is something just waiting for the next misstep. One of the memories I have, is listening to my father read this to his fourth-grade class, and the students all just laughing hilariously at this wacky story. I also loved how much my father was able to play the story, and I’m sure he has it memorized by now after reading this year after year for twenty-five years to his students, but his voice is just able to capture the story. Like my father, I would use this in older elementary as a read aloud book as our first book of the year, since the running theme is school related and the whole back to school idea. Sachar has once again shown his incredible strength as a youth writer, the entire Wayside series, is one that I highly recommend teachers and anyone interesting owning all of Sachar’s work."
