"I began reading Aesop's Fables out loud to my Mom over the phone since we had gotten a bit tired of reading the Caldecott books. My mom passed away April 16 rather unexpectedly. I have to say reading in general has been a struggle--actually I find little interest in doing anything, but I pushed through with the Fables since they're short so I could read a couple a night. It wasn't the same reading them silently to myself, or not having someone to critique or comment on the lesson of the Fable.

I don't have much to say--they're good. I hadn't realized how many phrases and lessons that are common come from them. I just wish my Mom had been there to hear them all and every single Caldecott book. Who else will listen to me read and then afterward say "Why did that win an award?"

Why indeed, Mom."
"Satisfying and fun! With so many fables, its fun to come across one for which the moral isn’t overwhelmingly clear. "
