"Main character felt very, very young and everyone was very forgiving of her even when she treated them very badly. Loved the setting and a lot of the background characters, but she was just a lot. It has some cute moments but I guess it just wasn't for me "

"This book sat in my house unread for months, I finally read it and it was… fine. Not good or bad, just fine. I didn’t really click with the main characters- Madeline was so determined to the point of which it got annoying and she became a “I’m the best, you can’t win” character, which is my least favorite part of enemies-to-lovers. And Jasper was just annoying, I wasn’t a fan of how much he sabotaged. The romance also went from enemies to lovers to fast- there’s a decent amount of “enemies”, but they started kissing immediately after they decided they shouldn’t be rivals- there was no time as just friends. And the romance just felt like a subplot until around page 150 or so, when it became too much of a focus. However, I did like the premise of rival bookstores, and there were some fun moments. Also there was a larger focus on family than in many other YA books, with I enjoyed. There was also some humor, but more in a cringy rom-com way. Plus, the ending was more realistic than usual in romance , there wasn’t a random miracle that saved everyone, it even was sort of sad. The romance wasn’t bad either, but I didn’t root for the couple or find they really cute or anything. This wasn’t a bad book, but I don’t think I’ll be rereading this or looking at more books from the author. "

"recently read this and let me say i loved it !! this book just fed my extremely high romance standards 🙄🙄. enemies to lovers (arguably the best trope in HISTORY). one complaint about the book is that the end seemed a little rushed and left open ended, i didn’t mind that much tho bc i can kinda make my own ending !!"
