It has been 3 years since the accident; 3 years since Adam stood at Mia’s bedside begging her to stay. Since that day, Adam’s life appears to be much different. His relationship with his bandmates is strained, he seems to be struggling with mental health issues, and Mia is M.I.A (no pun intended). The absence of Mia in his life has made for some drastic changes, not just gaining attention from a best-selling album, but deeper issues that he comes to open up to later in the book. Although Adam is clearly struggling, he still is the mastermind behind his band “Shooting Star.” They are about to embark on a huge tour, and he is feeling many reservations about being out on the road again. His anxiety hits an all time high when a reporter takes him aside and brings up his past with Mia, a topic that has been off the table for news platforms for the past 3 years. Adam loses his temper and blows the interview. He storms out and takes some time to himself to cool down. As he’s taking a walk down the streets of New York, he sees an advertisement for a recital happening that night. Without giving it a second thought, he buys a ticket and walks inside. Little does he know, he is about to change the trajectory of the rest of his life. As for Mia, choosing to live was only half of the battle. Mia woke up an orphan and sustained many injuries that she would spend a lot of time trying to cope with. The one constant in her life? Music. Mia jumps right back into playing the cello, which seems to be the only thing that she can focus all of her energy into. Oddly enough, playing helps her heal in more ways than just one. Mia goes on to study at Julliard, her life-long dream. At first, it is not what she expected. Especially due to the accident, she has some unexpected hurdles she needs to face. However, she graduates a year early and is about to embark on her first tour, debuting in Japan. She has one final recital in New York, and then she will pack up and leave for Japan the next day. That is, until she hears mumbles that THE Adam Wilde, lead singer and guitarist from Collateral Damage was seen in in the audience of the recital. Now Mia is faced with the past she has been avoiding for the past 3 years. Will she face Adam, or will she continue to run away from the past and keep all of her anger bottled up inside? Be warned that your emotions will be on high alert as you hear this story from Adams point of view. Adam has a lot of inner monologue that I think is key to understanding the full story of what happened with Mia and why they are no longer in each other’s lives. The story bounces between present day, before the accident, and when he heard of the accident; none of which is easy to hear. The pair both have been living with a lot of guilt, however there are many differences in how they deal with this guilt and how it has affected their future. Although they are both very successful in pursuing their musical dreams, they both know there are many things left unsaid. This story is about closure. How will Mia and Adam work towards understanding their mistakes, and gain the closure they both need in order to push past their hurdles and find happiness? The last few chapters, in my opinion, are beautifully written and gave me all the answers as a reader, that I was desperately searching for."

"A beautiful sequel for If I stay. Told in his POV. The whole story happens in like one night but it doesn’t feel squished, it fits perfectly and the ending is fulfilling. I was not disappointed at all and it lived up to the first one. "

"I read this book in hopes it would be better than the first and it was, but not by very much. I liked Adam's perspective a lot better than Mia's but both books seemed to just drag on and on. Adam was kind of...annoying. Or as Mia put it in the book, a guy. Adam's self pity and depression was somewhat understandable, but after a certain point he should have been able to quit moping around and find something that would make him happy. Mia wasn't around to do it, and his music wasn't making him happy anymore, so he should have just forgot about both and started a new life for himself. Mia kind of turned into a beat between the first and second books. She seemed to have just left everyone behind without any explanation to those people and became all rich, famous and snotty. This was an okay read, but probably not a series I would read again."
