I was lucky enough to have married a man who knew that the first edition of this was illustrated (by Barker! ) and he got it for me for our anniversary last year. I have really fallen in love with the world if Abarat and can't wait to start the second book. If you can, I highly recommend reading an illustrated copy."

The art is stunning, the plot is engaging, the main characters are wonderfully quirky, and the villains are terrifying and magnetic in true Clive Barker fashion. I've re-read this book several times now and I never get tired of it."
