"This was pretty cool. When I started this, I knew some people had DNF'd it or just didn't like it. That kind of "scared" me because I was really looking forward to this book, but now that I've read it, I can say I actually enjoyed it. At first, it was slow and the world building felt like it was just dumped all in 3 chapters. It's not like Holly Black's writing style in her YA books(those I felt were less heavy and less dense). This one kind of made me sleepy but once I got past that, I couldn't stop. Charlie Hall is a cool character that just got the short end of the stick when it came down to her lifestyle. But she made the best of it. There were at times, were I was slightly confused on what she was talking about and where the plot was going. The twists were great, I had fun being shocked 😅. I'll definitely be reading book 2!"
"From these comments, I was expecting it to be really good! And in some aspects it was, like the little twists here and there were interesting but not very attention grabbing to me. I feel like it was kind of underwhelming. The ending was good in a way, but I feel like I had to power through this book… I’d rate it a 6/10. Maybe 5/10. Sorry Holly Black !"
