F. C. Yee
An instant USA Today and New York Times bestseller, F.C. Yee's Avatar, the Last Airbender: The Rise of Kyoshi delves into the story of Kyoshi, the Earth Kingdom-born Avatar. Written in consultation with Michael Dante DiMartino, the visionary cocreator and executive producer of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra animated TV series. The longest-living Avatar in this beloved world's history, Avatar Kyoshi established the brave and respected Kyoshi Warriors, but she also founded the secretive Dai Li, which led to the corruption, decline, and fall of her own nation. The first of two novels based on Avatar Kyoshi in the Chronicles of the Avatar series, The Rise of Kyoshi maps her journey from a girl of humble origins to the merciless pursuer of justice who is still feared and admired centuries after she became the Avatar. "Yee artfully weaves in political entanglements as well as complex cultural identities to fully immerse readers in Kyoshi's world. . . . An action-packed tale that answers some long-awaited questions; fans will look forward to the promised sequel."--Kirkus Reviews

"Incredibly exciting read with a good balance of action and character growth. Every character is well rounded whether you love or hate them. The lore of the world of ATLA is respected and expanded on, honestly I could write a novel raving about this novel.
As someone that’s been a fan of Avatar the Last Airbender since it’s inception and taken in all of the content from the animated series to the post series (and LoK) comics, I want to emphasize that these two Avatar Kyoshi centered novels are my absolute favorite content. Honestly, they might be my favorite books literally ever. "
"This was a great narrative that has rich world-building and interesting characters. Kyoshi is a fully fleshed out individual and the representation of her sexuality is done expertly. The way bending is explained in the narrative is also really entertaining and enjoyable. I wasn’t expecting as much gore and murder as there was and I actually REALLY loved it. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves Avatar and anyone who’s interested in Avatar but might not know where to start. "
"I just finished this and its sequel recently. I love how wholesome her and rangis relationship is! I always feel like the whole point of the book is the lgbt relationship, or it's such a minor detail that it feels like it wasnt worth mentioning anyway. I love that in this, their relationship was written like any old straight relationship. Not the focal point, but enough sweet cute moments in between the action to make me melt. My favorite type of romance in a story "

"For the fans of ATLA.. this is a must read! You will dive in and learn about the famous Avatar, Kyoshi! From her roots to her acceptance of her Avatarhood, you are transported back into this universe with the quirkness of the original Avatar series but with a seriousness that is brilliantly portrayed."
"Great for avatar lovers"
