Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, God of the Sea, has woken from a very deep sleep and come face to face with two snake-haired ladies who refuse to die. But they're the least of his problems. Because Percy finds himself at a camp for half-bloods, which doesn't ring any bells for him. There's just one name he remembers from his past.

"This series just keeps getting better and better! Our friend Percy Jackson is back in this one, but he has no memory and he is thrown into a Roman camp, with a completely different culture/gods, etc. These books are riveting, smart, & funny! I cannot wait to the next book where it seems all of the characters are finally going to get to meet. I cannot wait to see what happens when Percy & Jason meet!"

"A most happy return to basics.
After the fiasco that were Jason's adventures (Sans Leo. We love Leo.) having Percy back felt like a breath of fresh air. Not to mention Hazel and Frank pull their weight just as much.

Absolutely charming book, bombastic even.

We're introduced to Camp Jupiter, the Roman side of the equation (The boring one if you ask me, I'm a Camp Half-Blood girlie.) and find out what their history books are like. A complete 180º from what we knew and were familiar with.
Once again we're thrown in a quest to keep battling Gaea who doesn't know when to quit.
If you barely managed to get through the last book like me? This will pull you back in full force.

Already looking forward to the next one."
"Actual rating is 4.5.

Some Haeliegh lore: 11 years ago, after waiting diligently for about a year, I got the first edition hardback of The Son of Neptune. I was in 8th grade. About halfway through the book, I accidentally left it behind in my 5th period physical science class. I was devastated, not only because I was afraid to go home and admit that I’d lost a book, but because I was OBSESSED with Percy Jackson. About a week later I walk into that same class and on the shelf next to the door, where the teacher had created a personal lost and found, was my book. Instant relief. The teacher saw me pick it up and said, “I knew that was yours. Looks like someone decided to return it.” I never figured out who took it and read it, but whoever it was I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

I initially gave this a 5/5. I can see why my 14 year old self thought so. This was an improvement on the first installment. The lost memory works better here (and is supremely less annoying) because we know who Percy Jackson is and his origins. I also highly enjoyed the introduction of the Roman camp and the look into the vastly different way they run things. And the return of Nico… always great. That boy is even more integral to this story than Percy. Half a star off because you can still feel how this book is mostly just a setup for what’s to come.

"
