"This book was gripping, and I really enjoyed it. I recommend it, however, I am learning more about some of the problematic aspects of the novel. While the story exposed me to new perspectives through the lens of a mother and child fleeing drug violence in their hometown, I also saw a critique of the book which called the writing, “trauma ****.” I think important conversations can come out of reading it, but I also feel mixed about the idea of struggle as entertainment. Read with awareness."
