"Probably one of the best fairytale retellings I have read in a while. The story has a lot of elements from the original Sleeping Beauty, yet also adds a lot of its own content. The worldbuilding was really well done and the kingdom felt fleshed out and developed. And all of the characters were so developed and lovable. The protagonists were very strong female characters who obviously were able to fight evil without anyone saving them. I wish we got more page time with Red, I absolutely loved her, but it felt like she didn’t appear as much as she should’ve. I think she has a bigger role in the sequel so I’m excited for that. I wasn’t a fan of how romantic Briar was for Fi, especially with Fi being so “I’m not going to fall in love”, but their relationship ended up being pretty adorable. And Fi absolutely didn’t deserve for her ex to do those things to her. He made me so mad. My one complaint is that I found it hard to read through most of the more descriptive paragraphs, and I mostly skimmed those parts, but the pacing for this was good overall. Also this had a lot of flashbacks, but it really helped develop the characters and why they did what they did. I really enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!"
