"Beautifully written book, very aesthetic and lovely winter atmosphere. I read it in a couple of days. However, there were so many magical elements that distracted me from the plot… it was just a little bit too much for me, so I wouldn’t pick it back up again. I still enjoyed reading it though. "

"Perhaps the most inventive of the rewritings of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed a lot of the visuals described, the main character was interesting if not completely compelling and I want the cool house with the VR library. That said, a few things didn't feel consistent. I couldn't follow the logic of the magic used in the story, the latter half of the book felt like a weird mix between fast forward and play at normal speed style of story telling. The time lapse was welcome to give the idea of disorientation but the clean up was so swift I couldn't exactly relish it. I also couldn't quite tell what century and what land we were supposed to be in where YAY! women can be doctors and initiate divorce but there are no vehicles mentioned or electronic devices. That said, I rarely see divorce mentioned in a fairy tale style story and LOVED seeing it used here. Divorce can be someone's fairy tale ending as well as a path to a new beginning and it's never seen in that light. The reverse rescue mission, the betrayal and question of loyalty even in the face of that betrayal to display a greater sense of principals were all wonderful. The fact that the rescue didn't automatically mean a fixed relationship was also a welcome touch of realism. The question remains though of whether that loyalty is equally given the other way. He has yet to prove his loyalty to her. Great take on the whole story. Really enjoyed it. "
