"This is my very first experience of a graphic novel, so I'm not sure it's fair to try to peg it with stars. Instead, my thoughts...<br/><br/>The art is simple but compelling. Clean lines and images, clear but muted colors, and one or two stunning pieces far more epic than the prose. The aesthetic develops and even matures as the story goes on...<br/><br/>It's a children's story, so do I forgive what Patrick Rothfuss called the "heavy-handed" plot points? Maybe. I wonder at the craft. Does artwork relieve the author of story development? Pacing? Character arc? Is the graphic novel simply *different* from other genres, an art form in itself, something the reader must learn to appreciate and hold to different standards?<br/><br/>And thus my foray into the graphic narrative begins."

"It was nice, I liked it. It's definitely targeted at children though, so I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more as a kid, but nonetheless I still plan on reading the rest of the series to see what happens next. The art is beautiful as well."
