Heart's Prisoner

He's not like anything Lana has ever encountered. Asset X: Massive, deadly, a little terrifying to say the least. A devilish warrior. And a killer. Captured on a hellish world after attacking a military campsite and now imprisoned in a state of the art cell inside one of the military's top bases--Lazris. And Lana has been assigned to "study" him. To learn his secrets and gain his trust, if he is ever allowed to set foot out of his cell. As a top behaviorist, it is the biggest hurdle of her career. Asset X--or Xerus as he is called--won't give up his secrets easily. He is difficult, elusive, and--dare she say--unfathomably alluring...despite his seething demeanor and hard, frightening physique. Something subconsciously draws her to him. Something wildly irresistible. Even if his wicked smile and needful gaze could just be a ploy to win her trust and escape his cell. She shouldn't think of him like that. He is an alien after all. And possibly their enemy. For Xerus claims he is on a mission. A mission to destroy. And he cannot afford to fail. If he dares let Lana get close, dares open his cold heart to her, she could compromise everything.

"<strong>Easy to read but left out key descriptions </strong><br/><br/>This story was ok. I mean it had some flaws but it also was unique too in a way. The writing style was easy though the plot and story not very deep. It didn't grip me or make me stay up in the wee hours to read the next chapter. The characters, I think, should have been flushed out more. We know little of Lana's past and we know next to nothing of Xerus. I mean come on sense selecting an alien romance I would like to know of there culture, home planet, animal inhabitants, literally anything. <br/><br/>The romance was a slow burn which I appreciated. Makes it more real and genuine. Also the characters could have been described better. Some had no description while others were in odd places far into the story. It made it hard to picture them. The, well I won't say world because you don't get to see any of it, the surroundings were well painted. But still like I said Xerus' world should have been the main focus towards the end. Seriously I don't understand why this is often put off in this genre. It would bring a much more rich setting to the story. Also while we are on the subject of Xerus, I think his point of view would have been welcomed to strengthen and fill out this book.<br/><br/>Weirdly I shouldn't be so happy about this but again it's the staple of the genre. I was so glad Lana had a friend that was a girl. It's unbelievable the many times I have read these types of books and every woman that isn't the protagonist is a "excuse my french" slutty bitch who is after her man. Given this type writing it is very easy to head into the sexed up trash direction so this was a welcomed surprise. I did enjoy Lana's and Xerus' interactions though there could have been a bit more emphasis on culture differences. To me it sad when you have a chance to get to know an alien character but most of what you see it just the appearance. It always brings a bit of hollowness to the work. <br/><br/>Xerus appearance was fascinating though I didn't understand the abundance of features like the horns. Again could be a domance thing or whatever but we got little to no backstory. Another staple of the genre humans are dicks lol but really we would put a reptile like species in a cage and expect it to be cold blooded and eat raw meat like an animal. We are quite possibly the worst race in the universe. So while I liked parts of this, I was of course disappointed it wasn't bulked up more with unique details related to Xerus species."
