There were many ways it failed for me, though. I never truly felt connected to the characters like I wanted to. The dramatic parts never got my heart racing. I listened to the audiobook version which I highly recommend because it’s read by someone who is Scottish or at least uses and accent so they are pronouncing the words correctly. I can’t wait to see what happens in the sequel."

The imagery is stunning and the use of actual Scottish lore made it all the more immersive. The later half was great and so fun to read. I don't feel like it is truly fitting into the adult genre, it did get into some slightly more "adult" topics with sidra and Torin's story line (losing faith, grief, finding love/intimacy) however I still feel this would be an appropriate read for a young adult."
