"Super fans. Groupies. Stalkers. Lori is just such a fanatic. Her obsession is with Edmund Cox, a man of sadistic cruelty who butchered more than twenty women. She's gone so far as to forge a relationship with him, visiting him in prison and sending him letters on a regular basis. She will do anything to get close to him, so when he gives her a task, she eagerly accepts it. She has no idea of the horror that awaits her. Edmund tells her she must go to his cabin in the woods of Killen and retrieve a key to deliver to a mysterious figure known only as The River Man. On her quest, she brings along her handicapped sister, and they journey through the deep, dark valley, beginning their trip upriver. The trip quickly becomes a surreal nightmare, one that digs up Lori's personal demons, the ones she feels bonds her to Edmund. The river runs with flesh, the cabin is a vault of horrors, and ghostly blues music echoes through the mountains. Soon they will learn that The River Man is not quite fact or folklore, and definitely not human -- at least, not anymore. And the key is just the beginning of what is required of Lori to prove she's worthy of a madman's love."--Amazon.com.

"This book was refreshing in a dark way. It's different from your heavy body horror gore. This was psychologically thrilling. The author really had a way to tell a story through such heavy and pressing topics that I couldn't praise this more. This is what psychological horror is about something to make you dig into the dark parts of humanity and leave you happy you're not in this story. 5/5 my fave psychologicall read this year. "
"Firstly this book had some extremely graphic and disturbing parts to it. But i loved this book it was very well written so much so that you could practicallt see what you were reading even smell it. The author did a wonderful job on character development as well. They all felt very real. Superb work really."
"0/5

**** this book. I knew going in there’d be some ****** up **** in this book but I’m just mad. Buzz’s character being a borderline racist caricature of a black man, Abby’s portrayal being incredibly ableist and the detailed incest rape scene. Everything about this book was throughly loathsome and I hope to never experience anything like it again. I wanted a grim supernatural horror story with some ****** **** and I got this. I would rate it a 0 if I could.

The only chapters that were actually interesting to me and not just boring or nauseating were the chapters WITH the River man and even then they had to mention her getting wet at the thought of banging her brother again. AND THAT END LINE, **** that cheesy nonsense.

And before anyone comments, I know you’re not supposed to like Lori. I could give less of a ****. There are characters that I dislike but still make good protagonists. There are stories I enjoy that have ****** up main characters and plot lines. I just could not stand this book and wanted it to end but got to a point where I was so far in I needed to finish it.

Not only that but the writing of women? Like come on Lori and Abby didn’t feel believable for a second. And the over use of words like sluiced. Just because it’s an uncommon word doesn’t make the description more interesting. It just makes you an asshole."
"This book was a truly disturbing experience. It’s not really all about what happens in the story (although of course parts of that are horrific as well) but more about how the author chooses to write about it. It’s very raw and unnerving and I found myself stopping to gasp multiple times.
What disappointed me a bit however was the amount of typos missed during the editing process!
That said, I consume A LOT of horror and true crime so I don’t get scared easily, but reading this in the dark, during a thunderstorm, I had to pause to gather myself for a few minutes as my palms were sweating and I had a creepy feeling overcome me.
NOT for the faint of heart. Horror at its core. A dark, gloomy book. Not one happy moment. Proceed with care."
