"I wanted him to get militant so bad. Reading about what happened after they "closed" was terrifying and the behavior of some of the characters had my mouth drop a few times. Enjoyable story, just wish they fought back harder."

"3.5. The plot of The Getaway starts strong, building up genuine horror through its themes of classism and racism. However, the last 25% lost momentum for me. The events felt chaotic and confusing, and the ending fell flat. Zeke's sudden shift in behavior—going from paranoid and unreliable to reconciling with others—didn’t make sense, especially when there were valid reasons for the characters to remain distrustful.
I struggled to connect with the characters, even Jay, the main protagonist. I found myself more interested in what was happening to them than in their actual personalities, as their voices weren't distinct. The additional POVs from Jay's friends didn’t add much either. While the concept of a resort as a refuge for the rich in a dystopian world had potential, the execution ultimately disappointed me."

"This YA thriller was trying to do a lot of different things, to varying degrees of success, but overall I had fun. It felt like it fizzled out a bit by the end though. If you like retail horror (eg. Horrorstör) or socially conscious thrillers (eg. When No One Is Watching) you will probably enjoy it."
