I'm just being curious I was thinking about it earlier so most people like a crime series that has a different case ever episode like a CSI type or one season off one case like a Mare of Eastown or True Detective type personally I very much prefer a season doing one case I don't watch CSI or law and order Alot because every episode is a different case what do you prefer?

Craig S. I like both as long as I'm entertained but, I'll counter with another question. Would you rather have a show you enjoy have different writers and stories and have 24 full episodes a season like CSI, or a show you like have 1 writer and 1 story and get 6 MAYBE 10 episodes per season and you have to wait a full year either way for the next season? I actually liked CSI back in the day, and with 24 episodes there was only 3ish months a year without new episodes. I also love all the other shows you mentioned, but unlike a network show you get a new episode for 2ish months then god knows when next season will be because streamers don't have a dedicated schedule like network shows do. Like I said, I like both as long as the show entertains me but how long have we waited for True Detective season 4? It's been about almost 5 years and we're gonna get 10 episodes. And honestly I do think it's a much better written show over CSI, but a 5 year wait for 10 episodes? I guess what I'm actually saying is yes, pretty much all streaming shows are usually far superior than anything on network TV for many reasons, but I can't believe streamers can't give us more episodes and a more regular schedule because networks have been doing it for years.

Phillip S. It doesn't matter how many writers a show has or how long new seasons take I wished it doesn't take long like the stranger things last season took forever, Curb your enthusiasm is taking awhile but both are great. The number of episodes have definitely changed shows use to have 20+ EPS LOST The Office etc and now your lucky to get 10 on any show but British shows always seemed to be really short some have 3 EPS usually 6 it sucks when they are great shows but I just prefer a season to do one case like a really long movie if they can write it well

Ryan I was saying seasons of 20 episodes or more. Breaking Bad was usually 13 episodes per season. IASIP is usually 10 episodes per season.

Craig S. NYPD Blue was basically episodic and The West Wing was an ongoing story. Both critically acclaimed from critics and viewers and considered a couple of the greatest TV shows of all time. They both had many seasons of 22 episodes each every year in the fall right on schedule. So I don't buy that these newer streaming shows can't do more than 8 or 10 episodes whenever they get around to it. The writers just got a pay raise and that's what they are there for. Unless it's some sort of workaround to do less work for the same paycheck, I don't know.

Phillip S. I think around 10 to 15 is a good episode number especially for streaming sites (if they release all at once I disliking alot these sites release 2 or 3 episodes at a time just give it all that's what it's for lol) but back to the question I do think I prefer much a season dedicated to one crime or story Dexter did that I didn't get much into Prodigal Son bc that format same as Luther different case each episode and I couldn't get much into it even though Elba is one of my favorites

Ryan It’s just personal preference on what kind of format you like. I watched the 1st season of NYPD Blue a few years ago because Deadwood is my favorite show of all time (both are David Milch shows). I thought it was solid but a lot the episodes are “the case of the week” with a little bit of character development and story progression sprinkled in (similar to what a show like House did). I felt like that format really neutered what Milch could do creatively. A lot of the episodes felt like they existed simply because they needed to do three more episode before bigger plot point X could advance. I just didn’t feel it was worth the time to watch the other seasons because of the bloat. I’ve never really watched network TV shows. If I had, it probably wouldn’t bug me so much.

Brandon Reed I like both, but if it's a different case every episode, then I don't want it to be a straightforward procedural. I want something like Monk or Psych where there's a comedic element.

Phillip S. Never watched Monk but big fan of Psych the duo of James Roday and Dule Hill (I think that's his name, Gus) is really good and makes the series worth it

Evangeline Kragt I like both I think, however I really like when there are different cases for each episode but there is a main case slowly growing in the background. I think a good example of this is the tv show “The Mentalist”.
