Would someone who has never seen any LOTR movies or Hobbit movies understand the show? Fantasy is not my typical genre but I do love some random shows I loved Fallout, about 4 seasons of Game of Thrones, The 100 just random ones lol I want to check this out but I've honestly never watched a song Lord of the Rings movie, would I be completely confused or is this pretty much separate?

Sher Free✌️  I’m a huge fan of the Peter Jackson LOTR films and watched and enjoyed this show as well. There’s a lot of lore but both can be enjoyed on their own merit. However I would say watch LOTR first if you’re up for them. They are magnificently made films and will put you in the right mental framework for ROP.

Phillip S. I don't know why I haven't gotten into them I tried to watch the first one but it didn't stick honestly It's really rare for a movie or so to stick the first time. My favorite shows I did not like my first attempt lol I know the gist of the story but I know they are extremely popular for a reason. I might give the first film a go tonight if I have the time

Sher Free✌️  Is the beginning a little too happy hobbiton for you? If so did you make it to when the Nazgûl riders show up hunting for Frodo and all the hobbits hide under the tree? If you get at least to that point and it still doesn’t work for you then I’d say go ahead and try ROP. If you end up liking that one then perhaps the movies will be more appealing. Or maybe none of it is for you. That’s fine too! Just an FYI I’m not into fantasy as much as I once was however I did a LOTR rewatch at the beginning of the year and they’re still just as good as they ever were to me. I’ll watch House of the Dragon now but not much other high fantasy.

Brian DeWeese ROP is just the beginning of the distant back story to the Hobbit and LOTR… the story isn’t completed in the first season… I also agree stating with LOTR is the right place.
