Topic: Godzilla Minus One

The next Godzilla movie in the Japanese line has just been announced! Takashi Yamazaki returns from Minus One as writer, director, and visual effects supervisor. Given the global hit's cliffhanger ending, could that film be getting a sequel? Could Godzilla Minus Two be hitting theaters in 2025?

Brandon Reed *I meant to say 2026. 2025 seems about as realistic as the plot of a Godzilla movie from circa 1975.

Connor Veenstra Probably a sequel. That movie did gangbusters and not just in Japan. Plus, that ending leaves it pretty much guaranteed that our favorite mutant dinosaur is still out there. The question for me is what the story could be about. How many other stories of human drama can fit so snuggly alongside a giant lizard destroying a country?

Brandon Reed I've thought about that, too, and I had an idea. Godzilla was originally and has often been used as a symbol for irresponsible nuclear testing and nuclear bombing. If Minus One symbolized the bombing of Japan, then Minus Two might draw parallels between those afflicted with G-cell contamination and those who were affected by radiation poisoning and radiation-related cancers following the bombings.
