Jenny Brown Both have quite a few similarities besides the general plot set up of what if kid has alien pet? Lilo lives in Hawaii one of the tourism capitals of the world vs early 80s la which is also busy, et managing to get to a suburban houses garden shed from random forest?park? All without anyone seeing him?vs stitch landing in jungle then getting hit by truck and turned into pound

Jenny Brown Then the single parent/promoted to parent figures Nani vs mary both are busy trying to provide for there families Nani as busy as she is knows about stitch's existence and listens to what lilo says and asks questions when bizarre stuff happens and starts to suspect stitch is a alien from practically the start or at least thinks somethings off mary thinks e.t's a doll?(that can breathe?) But doesn't question her kids where they got them she didn't pay for him and her teen son doesn't get along well with his siblings so it's not likely he would give them a ride let alone a new toy and it takes Eliot getting sick and Government agents breaking into her house for her to realize something weird is going on

lyzander cross E.T. aged very poorly and I'm not referring to the character

Jenny Brown Almost death scenes in stitch has a glitch and the end bit of e.t both cases if you are a older viewer it's a little hard to think oh no stitch/e.t's going to die because both 80s era family film genre steven Spielberg and disney would not have the guts to kill a main character that we spent half the show with who isn't a parent or part of a superhero orgin e.t's sickness comes out of left field and seems a little rushed stitch has other symptoms leading up to his being put in a pod

lyzander cross Also the experience of isolation for both aliens... E.T. trying to phone and return to his people and stitch wanting to know who his family is

Jenny Brown Overall I would have to agree with you that lilo and stitch has aged better as a franchise and used a lot of the same elements better than et did

Jenny Brown Also good call on the isolation themes for that I would almost have it as a tie because they are equally intertwined in the respective plots well

Brandon Reed I'd also say that Lilo and Stitch did the whole plot better, but the influence of E.T. is so great that Lilo and Stitch would probably not exist if E.T. hadn't been made.
