"An absolutely bonkers film in the best possible way. Absolutely hilarious from start to finish. Fantastic writing, direction and acting (both Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder were an incredible comedic pair and both of them are the MVP (I absolutely loved Gene in WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, and he was the the soul of that film), and I find it an absolutely hilarious that Gene lost the Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for this film to his WILLY WONKA co-star Jack Albertson (Grandpa Joe)). A very well-deserved Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay (beating 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY among others) that effectively parodies a seemingly offensive subject matter (I can totally see where JOJO RABBIT got its inspiration). This film wouldn’t work as well as does without the combined efforts of Mel Brooks, Zero Mostel, and Gene Wilder, and its status as a comedy classic is very well deserved. Highly recommended. P.S.: Technically this is either my first or second Mel Brooks film (while I vaguely recall seeing BLAZING SADDLES almost 30 years ago, I don’t have much memory of it). Eagerly looking forward to rewatching it along with other films."
