"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A24 has done it again! I really enjoy a good thought provoking film about life and this one didn’t disappoint! One description I read, described this film as a meditative supernatural tale and I think that’s the perfect summary for this film! And this is definitely one of those that may stick with you for a bit after watching, especially if you’re one of those that often ponders life like I do. This movie was a bit trippy due to the time travel aspect of the story, which I absolutely loved and I also really loved the existential nihilism conversation that happens in the film that pretty much sums up the the film, I found that to be brilliant! This is one of the best explorations of what a possible afterlife could be like that I’ve seen in quite awhile! I highly recommend giving this watch if you’re feeling even a little bit interested! 👍🏾"
"+ Whereas director David Lowery and crew created a world in The Green Knight where the camera acted as a portal to a fantastical, introspective space, this is more of a meditative movie, exploring moments and watching the unfolding of life through the perspective of a hungry ghost, longing for his lost life. It is visually stunning in parts, but what I had more of an appreciation for in the later rewatches was the visceral sound mix that almost seemed to put us in the emotional field of the characters. I have heard that cinema isn't exactly the medium for philosophy, and though I am inclined to agree with that statement, I think when film marries the philosophical to the metaphysical it creates a rich canvas of impressions within the human psyche that allows a movie to stay with us long after we have watched it. A Ghost Story (and The Green Knight) had this effect on me.
(?) There is a scene in this movie that illustrates what I mean when I speak of a movie having a disadvantage in the current climate. In the movie Mara Rooney has just lost her husband. She comes home and finds a freshly made pie left on the counter by a friend. In her grief she begins to eat the pie and we watch her for what seems like at least five minutes while her husband watches in the background wearing the sheet pulled over him at the morgue when he was declared dead. There is no score, no dialogue, and it in no way moves a plot forward. It invites us to sit with this character and share an experience. Nothing more, nothing less. Decide now if that sounds like a movie for you and if you are open to giving it a chance. I call it a disadvantage, but it also provides a wonderful opportunity to experience a movie that doesn't spoon-feed us meaning and takes risks to give us something that formulas don't have the space or time to give us."
"It was an amazing movie. The scenes were drawn out at times but this is a art movie so it’s to be expected. Sadly the plot was a bit predictable, but they managed to convey the full extent of emotion even though almost no words were said."

"The sheet is a wonderful device. Since it completely obscures the actor and their expression, it makes the ghosts feel truly separate from the living world in a way that other ghost films can't. Sometimes it's whimsical: C looks out the window and sees another ghost, bedecked in a floral sheet, waving at him from the neighboring house. On other occasions, it is carefully arranged or lengthened to add classical theatricality to a scene, like the drapes that adorn Michaelangelo's figures."
