+ The greatest strength of this movie is its performances from the four leads. Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer have a close-knit chemistry that resonates on screen, while Jack Nicholson chews the scenery in a fun way. It also displays some of Director George Miller's signature dark energy that is also at times funny. Something about his movies always makes me feel uneasy, especially in the family drama "Lorenzo's Oil." There is some commentary on male/female relations, but it's funny and works perfectly for the material.
- Towards the end it becomes too cartoonish. What makes this movie appealing is it feels like a Halloween movie for adults, but towards the end it goes into a kind of Home Alone territory (though to be fair, Home Alone did come after this). It doesn't help that the music score is done by John Williams. If they had kept a little more to the darker side while still being funny I might have enjoyed it more, but as it is, it's still fun to watch at least once.
Overall: A fun adult Halloween movie with a cast of characters that have great chemistry. Definitely a product of the 80s that felt a bit too silly and slapstick in the last act. The very end was both funny and creepy. "
"I’ll watch any movie if Jack Nicholson is in it so that was the initial draw plus I had read the book. The scene with Veronica Cartwright does not disappoint! "
