"God I need this movie! All the things we think all the struggles the view perspective on motherhood. The acceptance of motherhood and being a feminist in your own right. A little sprinkle sprinkle of creature action werewolf type vibes but even netter because of the story. Amy adams was brilliant definitely should watch this."
"So first of all Amy Adam’s…
Unique I. LOVE. UNIQUE. As a mom it’s crazy relating the experience and feelings that come with being a mother it can and will be difficult at a lot of times I’m just glad I didn’t have to additionally deal with my feelings causing me to turn into an alpha neighborhood dog !"
"I'm a big sucker for magical realism, and the thing I like about magical realism is that it somehow manages to make unpalatable things palatable. Postpartum depression is something that was beautifully portrayed in a very funny way. This was a great look at the realities of motherhood without that trope-y "women need to have quiet dignity of suffering and silence" nonsense. I hear that the book was better, so now I'll have to read it. Every actor in this film played their role excellently. "
"It makes sense this was based on a book that also got some mixed reviews. I liked many elements but I couldn’t put my finger on what left me feeling ultimately disinterested…whether it was the editing (which felt jumpy and erratic) or if the tone was a little off (not funny enough to be funny, not sincere enough to be drama)…or if it was just too on the nose. I either wanted it to go harder and get real weird or be more or a character study, because it floated around being kind of a shrug. Appreciate the complexity of women and difficulty of motherhood being explored for sure, and Amy Adams is great, but it was ‘just okay’ for me. "
"3 1/2 ⭐️ Amy Adams was spectacular and I was glad to see motherhood issues addressed but at the same time I didn’t find the magical realism aspect completely appealing. It was a little confusing at times - was it happening or was it a metaphor? Or both? This movie felt very much like an Arthouse film in many respects and that it was intended as a feminist anthem of sorts. UPDATE: I just learned that this is actually considered an Indie film rather than an Arthouse film. "
