Not as strong as behind her eyes but still a fantastic read that will leave you guessing til the end. The horror elements still felt like they belonged but weren't as fleshed out. Overall I loved the book and it could have been perfect with a bit more time spent on the smaller details I think.

Absolutely insane thriller with just the right touch of horror. Best thriller I've read in a while.

Not great but not bad. Wish the characters were a few years older and there was a bit more plot/substance but it was enough to get me interested in reading the next in hopes that it has more of what I'm looking for.

I love V. E. Schwab's writing and this is just another example of why. It is such a simple story, very character driven as I find a lot of her writing is. I adore the concept of a mute character (at first I thought I'd miss the dialogue a bit but in the end I didn't at all). The vibe was very crimson peaks and I loved the darker twisting, eerie feeling.

Lovely. Written beautifully with strong old fairytale vibes. Did not go the direction I expected but had such a good ending. Joy to read with such interesting characters and concepts.

A bit on the slow side, the first half felt like side quests without any true repercussions. The imagery is stunning and the use of actual Scottish lore made it all the more immersive. The later half was great and so fun to read. I don't feel like it is truly fitting into the adult genre, it did get into some slightly more "adult" topics with sidra and Torin's story line (losing faith, grief, finding love/intimacy) however I still feel this would be an appropriate read for a young adult.
