This is one of the best fiction books I've read in a while. The writing is beautiful, and I love how it's interspersed with science in an informative and passionate way. I wanted to know how this book would turn out, but at the same time I didn't want to end. It never felt rushed or slow, just a great immersive experience.

A witty & clever send-up of the years' bizarre events, brilliantly covered by a UK/US cast who doesn't miss a beat.

Death to 2020
Movies | Comedy
Has a professional working mother who is the same age as the lead character, I could empathize with the push/pull / crush of the competing demands of motherhood, intellect, and self. The lead character and her younger self seem so different at first, but the film slowly reveals how truly we are a continuum of ourselves, and how mature women carry so much of our younger, vibrant, uncompromising selves within a more muted facade of a world-wearied body. The film is beautifully adapted & directed.

The Lost Daughter
Movies | Drama
I heard a new voice tonight - one I had not heard before. The voice of James Baldwin. And I am humbled at how clearly he sees our nation, how clearly he sees its racial factions and what divides us. And I am ashamed that his voice is not new, and yet we have not yet heeded it. Please watch & listen with an open mind, and give it the opportunity to shift your perspective, even just a little. Listen for truth. It has a clear sound.

If you like fantasy, sci-fi, and mythology, this is a really unique blend of the three. The characters are multifaceted, and the heroine is strong. I've never read anything quite like it, but I will be looking for more N.K. Jemisin as a result!
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

A most unusual sci-fi, but the way that it interweaves personal stories with the culture of New York was absolutely fascinating. Give it a few chapters to grip you, but make sure your weekend is cleared for the last third!
