"My favorite Alice Hoffman book"

"This will be difficult. I try to always read a book before the movie but in this instance I watched the film back when I was young and not fond of reading in the least. So my opinion will be biased now that I know how good the book might have been. All I can do is compare and there is no way around it.<br/><br/>The book for me was missing that sisterly companionship. The one were each one senses the other in danger. Or instantly comes to the others aid. I was very sad about that. The connection felt magical and organic. Still I understand there could be no movie without the book. So obviously there was magical elements. Though not as much unfortunately.<br/><br/>Also the movie had that ominous feeling. You are waiting the entire time for the happiness to be over. For the evil to show it's face. The book was a bit more mundane. Honestly it's difficult to shift thru my feelings and stop complaining about the difference, the lack there of. It was witchy and good but it was missing all the key elements that made the movie great. One of my favorite parts was how the family lived in thier old ancestral home but again in the book this is not so. The sisters move away for the majority of the story. <br/><br/>I did enjoy the spells spoken at the beginning of each chapter. And I'm not sad I read this I'm just saddened I couldn't give it a proper review.<br/><br/>Quotes:<br/><br/>"Avoid men who call you baby." Greatest words ever spoken."

"This was so good, it's heartwarming, comforting, nostalgic, and all while breaking your heart a little more with each chapter you read. The way their lives were portrayed, what they lost and what they gained as they grew was absolutely mesmerizing. I didnt think I would love this as much as I do. An amazing book and I will recommend to anyone and everyone."

"As much as Practical Magic is one of my absolute favorite movies, I was really disappointed with this book. I quickly noticed that a LOT of changes were made between the book and the movie, which is fine — I read Hoffman’s “The Rules of Magic” and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I was open to reading a somewhat different story. But I couldn’t get into this book. <br/><br/>Her writing style felt less cohesive and not quite as evolved as it did in “The Rules of Magic“, and it was surprisingly smutty in a few parts. I didn’t even make it halfway through before I gave up. From what I read, this book felt like it was kind of about witches but also kind of a half-assed romance novel. I’m just here for the witches."

"Nothing like the movie but close enough to have sparks of bits of nostalgia if you saw it first. A good read with interesting writing style. Felt like the whole thing was a big run on sentence but in a fun way. "
