"Don't go in the guest bedroom." A shadow falls on Douglas Garrick's face as he touches the door with his fingertips. "My wife... she's very ill." As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can't risk losing this job-not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe... It's hard to find an employer who doesn't ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want. It's almost perfect. But I still haven't met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I'm sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I'm doing laundry. And one day I can't help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything... That's when I make a promise. After all, I've done this before. I can protect Mrs Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe. Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It's simply a question of how far I'm willing to go... This absolutely explosive and shockingly twisty sequel to international bestseller The Housemaid will keep you racing through the pages late into the night. "** SPOILERS **
This one I wasn’t so taken by, not because the writing or the author. But because I feel like the story fell short. I don’t like how Millie is in this situation yet again, like why don’t you learn…that part is just annoying. Not to mention the character Wendy played, I LOATHED her. I will admit it was a clever plot twist but after reading the first one, it was kind of a given that somehow Wendy was going to become the villain. But why she was the villain was even worse…greed. I can’t fathom why she remotely got into a marriage with Douglas if she didn’t feel anything for the man. I was also surprised at the fact Brock just left Millie at the station, that was by far some BS. And then after the breakup and everything he still doesn’t have a change in feelings or even understanding. He’s a lawyer, I feel like he has the most unethical morals with that career (I mean half the time you could be defending killers, drug dealers, etc and let them walk without any prison time…totally wild) And for the romance between Enzo and Millie, I was kind of over it. Like you stalked her for 3 months and expected her to wait but didn’t communicate so you let her get with “Broccoli”…COMMUNICATION MAN (or the lack thereof I should say lmfao) McFadden did a great job at her writing and I think the storyline was fantastic. I just think the characters in this made it so hard to like. Not only that, but I feel like the kill by Marybeth feels so justified it’s almost a given it was going to happen. The only surprise was that Marybeth did it. "
