"This movie was amazing. Akira Kusosawa movie. A executive at a company in Japan borrows to take over the company. Someone tries to kidnap his son but they grab his drivers son. They want a ransom that will leave the executive broke and in debt. His home was the collateral so he will lose his home. Do you pay the ransom that will destroy you for another person’s child?
The police work is the most realistic police procedural you will see. The film had me in suspense the entire movie. A great movie"
"I see why Kurosawa is on the GOAT list when it comes to filmmakers. This movie is beyond amazing. Simple story that evolves throughout the film, with one twist coming after the other. I really love the cinematography in this film. Every frame was meticulously measured to be this tight, enclosed space, making you feel claustrophobic throughout the film. I also like how a majority of the still shots had the action come into the frame rather than the camera following the action. The acting was also superb in this flick, especially the dude who played the Head Detective. Overall this has to be on every cinephile's list and it will most definitely be in my top 5 favorite films of all time.

"An unusual Kurosawa, set in the present, 1963, in which a shoe executive’s life is turned upside down when a child in his household is kidnapped. Part corporate cautionary tale, part police procedural, the film is fascinating for its glimpse of midcentury modern life in Japan. "
