"Wow. I never thought I would be this moved by a bunch of animated clay figures. This is Adam Elliot's labour of love and he manages to excel in just about every department imaginable. Animation, design, music, language, all are outstanding, but what stands head and shoulders above everything else is the story and the characters that inhabit it. As cute and heartwarming as it is, this film is essentially about isolation, not fitting in, and about the shallowness of judging by covers only. It looks and sounds amazing as well. The character design and the quality of animation are superb. The score is beautiful, using light and almost operatic classical music to great effect. I loved this film dearly. The final scene captures its essence best and is one that had me smiling with tears in my eyes. This is a sensation it manages to evoke at practically every twist in the tale making it the perfect cinematic definition of bitter sweet."
"Another movie I wouldn’t have ever watched if not by random chance. This time it was in a YouTube video I got recommended. By the way this movie is free on YouTube so you can watch it any time. Wonderful movie though. It may seem like just two people writing to each other. But it’s also a amazing story about two different people. The max voice actor did an amazing job which even made me respect voice actors more. Seems like such a harder thing to perform only using your voice. Honestly though the visuals terrified me. Not one to get scared. But something about stop motion creeps me out. Not all but for sure the majority of them. A bonus its only 90 minutes."
"This is most definitely not a kids' movie. I was moved by the plot and the characters' interactions with each other. I also shed a few tears. It captures an array of different mental illnesses and disabilities and brings thoughtful attention to them. I also loved how it showed the power of pen-pals and how impactful having a friend is even if you have never met in person before. All around this movie is in a league of its own. It is totally odd, but most importantly it is entertaining and thought provoking. If you enjoy stop motion movies, and want to watch a movie that is everything but ordinary this is a perfect movie for you!"
"I promise myself that one day I will be able to watch this movie without crying"

"Wasn't expecting to shed a tear at this, but damn it got me 😭 New favorite claymation film, 4.75☆
I won't get into my thoughts on Aspergers as a diagnosis here, but this film gets a pass from me 1. because of the time period & the conversations around Autism when this movie takes place (the distinction between the diagnoses still being made in a clinical setting) + 2. Max's Neurodivergence & attitude towards said neurodivergence was handled BEAUTIFULLY imo
This was a lovely & very odd story. I connected with it & the characters strongly as someone with ASD"
