"I hate…well hates a strong word..don’t like all the Friday the 13ths but this one isn’t as bad as the rest I guess. It has a neat twist ending but my god it moves at a snails pace to get anywhere in the story, which I know it’s just a slasher but it even takes forever for slashing to actually happen! Boring film and Jason is a boring horror icon..cool outfit though. Please don’t kill me Jason fans I say this with all the love. ❤️"
"Let's not kid ourselves. This movie owes its legacy to the sequels. Pamela Voorhees is clearly an inversion of the Norman/Norma Bates relationship, and Psycho did that much more effectively. Pamela's reveal isn't earned in the slightest because she doesn't even exist in the movie until right around the end, leaving what could have been a decent whodunit lacking. Jason (in the sequels) and the gore effects save this movie. While the gore effects don't necessarily hold up, they were great for the time. This is a rare occasion where a movie has more staying power because of its sequels rather than the sequels being helped by association with the original."
"This movie made me see the appeal of slasher movies. I had seen Nightmare on Elm Street, the OG Halloween who made the genre, Scream, Child's Play, but none really interested me. I didn't know the lore that the hockey mask was not always a thing which I thought was very interesting plus a few other lore bits that were much more captivating than the other franchise slasher films I'd seen. I haven't seen all of the Friday the 13th films but I've seen quite a few now."
