"Just a really good and fast paced western movie, highly recommended by me!"

"4½⭐/5⭐ + SILVERADO has pretty much everything you could expect from a western. The casting is perfect, the cinematography and set-designs are evocative of the Old West while also giving it an adventurous scope with beautifully shot exteriors. The direction is strong, as is the script. Lawrence Kasdan has a wonderful feel for what works so well in adventure movies, and this movie is a great example. Even before we pass the first hour we are given a lot of narrative that is more interesting than a full-length 90 minute feature film. We see the four main characters meet and work together for that part, go their separate ways where we get to know them better as singular characters (for the most part), and then meet up again for the third act. This all comes together to create a wonderful, western aesthetic that could have had a little more heft if they had gone for a more grounded R-rated feel. As it is the PG-13 lighter approach goes more for the younger crowd. Not a knock, but I can't help thinking what it would have looked like had they gone a little deeper. The two actors who steal the movie are Kevin Kline and Danny Glover. If there is any emotional depth in this story it comes from Paden and Mal and the way the actors play them is always direct and simple. If you're looking for a swashbuckling adventure in the West, this is your movie. - It could have done with less shoot-outs and more grounded narrative thrown into the mix. At 2 hours and 10 minutes the runtime could have easily justified it, and it shows most in the scenes between Scott Glenn's Emmett and Rosanna Arquette's Hannah. We could have had more personal scenes with them, even if they never actually get involved romantically. By the end of the movie I felt like so much more could have been done here alone, but instead the time was dedicated to shootouts because, well, they're more entertaining (I guess). I get that this is a Western and an adventure at that, but the setting has so much more to offer."
