"A Dungeons and Dragons podcast for those who know nothing about the game. You learn with the players at the very beginning of their first story arc and appreciate the goofiness that follows. However, once you get into the 3rd or 4th chapter, you realize you've signed up for a story that rivals most of the books on the NYT Best Sellers List. Seriously, who would have thunk 4 goofballs could make you care about their characters and growth so deeply and leave you in tears? (Happy tears, I promise.)"
"my all time favorite podcast. The McElroy Brothers are who got me excited about D&D again, and the people who inspired me to try DMing. I love everything these beautiful boys create, but I am completely biased to the first arc Balance. The story was wonderfully written, and the way that Griffin was able to pull off certain plot points unscripted simply by knowing exactly what his brothers would do left me speechless. The chemistry between the characters, the imagery, the music? I'm torn between wanting everyone to listen and love it the way I do, and wanting to keep it all for myself. 10/10 "
"I heard so many good things about this podcast, and at first I thought they were exaggerated. The first arc, Here There Be Gerblins, was funny, but I had heard there would be intricate plotlines and characters! But I kept listening, and whoo boy it did not disappoint. By the last episodes, I was sobbing.
It takes a little while to go anywhere, but that's because it started as a goof with no clear plan. You get to not only see the story progress, but the people themselves as they get more and more invested into the story.
The adventure zone, balance especially, works so well because it wasn't supposed to be anything. They went into it not expecting to create a deep story, but it came out of them authentically and genuinely. It's rare to get a chance to watch the characters AND their creators grow alongside each other.
I would recommend this to anyone with a pulse. It's hilarious, heartfelt, emotional and clever. If you start listening and don't think it's for you, keep going for another arc or two, you're guaranteed to fall in love with it by the end. It instantly became my favorite piece of fiction, and I couldn't be happier (just make sure you avoid all the spoilers!)"
"I didn't listen to a single episode of Graduation because the premise didn't interest me but you have to give Balance arc a chance for sure. Absolutely wonderful story and sooo funny! Amnesty is great as well but wrapped up a bit too fast for my liking."
