"I watched the whole first season because of the nostalgia. Alex isn't in it besides the first episode. Max isn't in it at all and neither is the mum. Jerry is in one episode. Other than Justin, Alex, Jerry, and possibly Justin's son Milo, the acting is terrible. The finale was the worst episode of them all. The bad guy acted worse than me and that's saying something. "
"It's actually a fun rendition of the classic TV show Wizards of Waverly Place. Justin Russo comes back but he is the only returning character for the show, which is rather disappointing. As classic as WoWP was, this one steps in a new direction while still honoring the original, & I'm here for it.
Unlike WoWP, Beyond has an overarching plot that leads towards something. Of course, WoWP eventually led to the family wizard competition. Each season kind of went haywire with the fun crazy side quests & random villains. Beyond keeps the magic going haywire then having to fix it before the episode is over but theres more depth now with something to overcome. Plus, you actually see everything leading up to what I hope will be a great battle.
The problem I have is that none of the relationships stuck around after WoWP. Mason and Juliet are nowhere to be found. Most of the original characters do not show up, but sprinkles of what happened to the main Russos are thrown in here and there, i like Maxs new life. But Justin got his happy ending completely thrown away for what we knew from the last show. Of course he's happy, but life took a hard turn for him & it can suck if you just rewatched the original show then started to watch this.
You might enjoy it more if you just go into this remembering WoWP instead of treating it like a spin-off. Yes, it is a continuation of the last show but it doesn't quite act like it. By that I mean they didn't take the world WoWP built they kind of just mimicked it.
There's a lot of clearly last second thrown together ideas they had. I won't say what but you can tell when they've set up the family as it is. So it did feel very rushed as compared to WoWP, which was more out of control growing up magical nonsense with some fun sideplots. This is more how can we Harry Potter this as much as possible while still being WoWP.
So there are a lot of word building things they did in the first show that they just forget & twist.
Still, i have high hopes."
"Obviously not as good as the original. Which is my favorite Disney show might I add, but it is still decently good. I was expecting it to be worse than it was, but going into it with low expectations did help me to enjoy it more. I would’ve liked more of the original cast in it, I know some will be featured later on though. I hope we get more of Selena as Alex. "
"Okay I'm just gonna rant real quick, this is the second worst Disney show I've ever seen maybe the worst. 1. The pacing is horrible and all over the place so is the story line it was like "no one can know she's a wizard! Ever!" To "welp, everyone knows now, oh well" in the first three episodes and they didn't even try to do anything about it!! 2. Most of the acting is pretty bad and the dialogue is also really crappy 3. One of the important parts of writing fantasy is getting the conflict and real world parts realistic and relatable, they screwed that up too. Thank you for listening to my rant :)"
"It’s funny and epic for a reboot, but can’t beat the original. "
