From Colleen Hoover, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and It Ends with Us, comes a moving and haunting novel of family, love, and the power of the truth. Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness. The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit. Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix. Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves. Poignant and powerful, Without Merit explores the layers of lies that tie a family together and the power of love and truth.

"This boos takes you on a true emotional journey. It shows us how Merit has to learn to handle herself in a broken family home, where she just wants to disappear. We see her grow throughout the book, watching her recover and learn from her mistakes. She attempts to rekindle the bonds she once had with her family and finally make amends. This is a beautiful story about love, family, and acceptance. You are wanted, always, and this book shows you that. There is hope in every broken family. 💖"
"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, I love all of Colleen Hoovers books I have read so far. That being said, while I enjoyed this one it was quite different from her norm and my least favorite so far. It was a good story and as per usual the ending wraps everything up nicely. I didn’t necessarily find Merit to be a likable character, and I think I would have appreciated more of a dive into her mother’s story! "
"Absolutely wonderful. I love Hoovers writing style and approach to fiction. This book was a touch hard for me to read during certain parts. I definitely feel that they were quintessential to the plot line but I was caught off gaurd at some of the content. Altogether, it was truly a wonderful read and I got through it in less than a day because I just couldn’t put it down. 10/10 Mrs. Hoover🤍"
"This was very different from her usual writing style, which I enjoyed a lot. It was such a unique and compelling story. I couldn't put it down! I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite books now. This is literally a masterpiece, and I loved every single second of it! Also, anyone else fall head over heels in love with Sagan?"
