"Skin of the sea is a young adult novel following the story of simidele, a Mami Wata (mermaid). Simidele is struggling between her loyalty to the undersea with her curiosity about the human world. Saving a human boy named Adekola sets Simi on a journey to make amends with the Orisa gods for breaking their laws.

This story has mystery, romantic tension, African cultural elements, intense fighting/running scenes, and beautiful newfound relationships.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the book and its intricate relationships, I must admit that I was expecting Simi to have more destructive nower and to be more of a badass. Despite this minor letdown, the book's twisty plot, well developed characters, and rich West African cultural influences made for an amazing read."
"This book was just kind of okay. I went into it thinking that it would be amazing like Children of Blood and Bone, but it wasn’t. I just had higher expectations for it, so I was slightly disappointed. The writing was good, the characters were good, I just got bored, and I’m sad that I did because it could have been a very good book."
"Excellent story with the romance truly for once being genuine and a subplot rather than the whole plot. Plus, sea lore and a pantheon of deities. What's not to love, really?"
