Waiting for Tom Hanks

"I enjoyed all the rom-com movie references. I have seen almost as many rom-com movies as the main character."

"3.5 ⭐️ Anyone who knows me knows Tom Hanks is a favorite of mine. I watch You’ve Got Mail multiple times a year. I thought this book was an obvious choice for me. It was cute but unfortunately I found myself not connecting with Annie. While I may agree with her love of Nora Ephron, I found her character and her choices frustrating. There were parts that were hard for me to get through."

""One little moment that's a bit like magic." <br/><br/>I had such high hopes to Waiting for Tom Hanks because it sounds like such a fun story. I loved the movie set setting, and this was an entertaining and fluffy weekend read. <br/><br/>The main thing that threw me off about this book was the acknowledgement of the lack of diversity in rom-coms within the story (which was good), yet the book was still about two white and straight characters. It was almost like other books/movies were getting called out, yet the author was still okay with perpetuating the lack of diversity. It was very odd, and I didn't understand why it was a major discussion for the main character if it wasn't going to go anywhere. <br/><br/>I found myself not really connecting with Annie, and wishing the book was about Chloe instead. I was very happy to see that book 2 will be about Chloe! Even though I had issues with this book, I would like to still give book 2 a chance, and see if maybe it's gotten better. At times, the Tom Hanks stuff felt like overkill, and I think there will be a little more balance with a different main character."
