"There's an interview on the audiobook, I'll update after that. But first: I had to finish it, had to see how the very compelling ghost story connected to a sort of goofy courtroom drama. I love the haunting, but couldn't get past how soaked the narrative is in his gaze. I doubt sex was necessary to sell us on his protection, it seems like fate. The narrative slips around and it's so fun, but always decides to get graphic when it doesn't have to. Maybe I just don't understand, but still..."

"I'm not going to listen to the audiobook. I'm going to try another book, and maybe some short stories. I want to confirm for sure I know what I'm talking about when I say stephen king doesn't click for me. It didn't have to be so soaked in sex, but it was; it didn't have to suddenly become a slick and witty legal drama, but it did; I was along for the ride with the ghosts and the creepy racist township, but the narrator's gaze didn't have to be homophobic, yet it was."

"Okay, I've now listened to a few other SK and I can confidently say I just didn't like this one. His gaze made me uncomfortable in many moments that maybe weren't necessary for the very interesting stories. He doesn't need to sexualize the vulnerable single mom. It's literally just enough that he help her in a goofy but sincere legal drama/power fantasy MEANWHILE carrying on a relationship with the spirits of his haunted house. The erotica could maybe be cut entirely."

"Still. The ghost stories are very interesting. The overall experience this narrator takes us on, in some of the really subjective language, is all very interesting. To listen to, at least. Having tried a few other SK, I think maybe I'll try a few more, and it's always interesting to see how studios dump hid ideas into CGI machines. Thanks, SK, for opening the doors to so many authors I think are a little more interesting to hear from. You're an inspiration and a legend, fer sher"
